What to look for in a good cotton sheet set
- Check the fiber name. Look for a specific cotton type on the label, like upland, pima, or supima, since a listing that just says 'cotton rich' usually means a poly blend that pills within months.
- Weight and weave. Percale feels crisp and cool and sateen has a slight sheen and drape, but either should still list a grams-per-square-meter or actual thread count between 180 and 400, not a marketing number like 1500.
- Deep pocket sizing. Fitted sheets should list an exact pocket depth in inches, usually 14 to 16, because a knockoff will just say 'fits all mattresses' and then bunch up on anything over 10 inches thick.
- Price floor. Among sellers who actually disclose who they are, cotton sheet sets run about $13 to $237 here, so anything priced well under that floor is cutting the fiber, the weave, or both.
