- Inspect the hinge and latch. Continuous stainless hinges and quarter-turn or bolted latches hold a door flat against the gasket, cheap pot-metal hinges and snap latches let the door sag and break the seal within months.
- Watch the price floor. Trustworthy US-sold enclosures in this category run from about $9 to $208, so anything priced well under that low end is almost always thinner steel or no rating at all.
