What to look for in a good squeeze toy

• check the rebound. Squeeze it and let go, a quality toy returns to its original shape in under a second, a cheap one stays dimpled or takes a slow, lopsided bounce back.
• smell test. A strong chemical or rubbery odor right out of the package usually means low-grade PVC filler, better toys made from molded silicone or slow-rise foam have almost no smell.
• seam quality. Run a finger along the seam, a fused or molded seam won't catch a fingernail, while a cheap glued seam will show a visible ridge and split within a few months of regular use.
• price as a signal. Among the US-based sellers we found, squeeze toys run about $7 to $33, and the disposable knockoffs tend to sit below that floor because they're cutting fill and wall thickness to hit a lower price.
