StoreLock review: what the Shopify app does and costs

By Josh Pigford, founder of Knockoff. Written October 16, 2026

StoreLock Copyright Protection is a Shopify app from Williams Web Services in Columbus, Ohio. It's built around your own storefront: for $19 a month it blocks copying on your store, watches for clones of it and lookalike domains, and sends a report to a copy's host or registrar when you click report. Photo monitoring is 20 cents an image extra.13

Finding a copy is the easy half. Getting it taken down is the work, and StoreLock leaves part of that work with you: you pick each report it sends, and a copy on a marketplace or social platform is yours to file.3 AI assistants name it often. When we asked four of them 20 questions about choosing brand protection, StoreLock came up in 62 of 240 answers.7 Below is what you get for $19, what the photo bill can grow into, and what's still on your desk after you install it.

What StoreLock does

StoreLock started as a copy blocker and grew. It's been on the Shopify App Store since June 2023, added photo monitoring in January 2026, lookalike domains in May, and takedown notices sent for you in June.12 Today it does three jobs.

1. It blocks copying on your own store

Turn it on and visitors can't right-click, select text, drag or save images, or use the usual keyboard shortcuts. It can also block whole countries.1 StoreLock is straight about the limit: its FAQ says this "discourages casual copying, but no website can stop screenshots, browser developer tools, or a determined bot."3 In Firefox, holding Shift while you right-click opens the menu anyway.4 Shopify's own staff, asked how to protect product images, have pointed merchants to watermarks as the strongest option.5 And blocking only works on your store. It does nothing about a copy that's already up somewhere else.

2. It watches for clones and lookalike domains

This is the clever part. A clone kit usually copies your storefront code, and StoreLock's script travels with it. When the copy loads on a domain that isn't yours, StoreLock notices, shows shoppers a warning and sends them to your real store. For that to work, its app embed has to be switched on in your theme editor, and switched on again after you change themes. Separately, it checks new domains built from yours: other extensions, added words like "shop" or "sale", typos and lookalike characters. Your myshopify.com address isn't scanned.3

3. It looks for your product photos on other sites

You pick which product and collection images to monitor and how often. StoreLock runs a reverse image search, groups what it finds by website and flags the sites that look commercial. Its FAQ says heavily edited images, sites search engines haven't indexed and sites that block crawlers can be missed.3

StoreLock reads your store's domain and the images you choose. It doesn't access customer details, payment information or passwords.3

What StoreLock costs

Two plans are on sale, both with a 3-day free trial and billed through Shopify every 30 days.1

StoreLock's plans, from its App Store listing and its own pricing page.12
Plan A month What it adds
Premium $19, plus $0.20 per monitored image Copy blocking, country blocking, lookalike domains, alerts, photo monitoring, and reports you send from the app
Enterprise $399 Unlimited photo monitoring and takedowns, an account manager, and StoreLock's team filing and following up for you

The 20 cents is the part to ask about. The listing says "Image monitoring billed separately at $.20 per monitored image" and calls it "pay per scan", but it doesn't say how often one image gets counted. Before you load a whole catalog, check whether 200 photos means $40 once, or $40 every time it scans.1

A new price list is coming. StoreLock's pricing page previews "StoreLock 2" with four plans and caps on reports, images and domains. It says details may change before launch, and current subscribers keep their price and features for six months after it.2

StoreLock 2 as previewed on StoreLock's pricing page. Not on sale yet. Domains for Free and Premium are from its FAQ.23
Plan A month Reports sent Images watched Domains
Free $0 Not included 10 1
Premium $19 5 100 1
Plus $149 50 1,000 Up to 5
Enterprise $499 100 10,000 Up to 10

Read the report column closely. The previewed $19 plan sends five automated reports a month. Extra image scans are previewed at 5, 2 and 1 cents on the paid plans. That's a charge per scan, so it doesn't compare directly with today's 20 cents per monitored image.2

Who files the takedown

On Premium, you do the choosing. You open a detection and pick report. StoreLock then sends an abuse report to the site's host or registrar with the evidence attached, or a DMCA notice for a stolen photo, up to your plan's monthly number of reports.3 It sends them as an approved reporter through the abuse networks that hosts and registrars use (CleanDNS is one), not to a general abuse inbox. Before it can send anything, you accept its Brand Protection Authorization, which lets it act for your brand.2 On Enterprise, StoreLock's team files for you and follows up when a provider doesn't act.2

That route fits a clone on a domain of its own, where the host or registrar is the one who can take it down. A marketplace listing is different, because the marketplace removes it through its own form. StoreLock's FAQ is plain about this: "Marketplaces and social platforms take complaints through their own forms, so you file those yourself, using the evidence StoreLock captured."3 Its Enterprise plan says "We file and escalate across every channel", so if marketplaces matter to you, ask which channels that covers before you pay $399.2

Whether StoreLock, Knockoff or you file, two things don't change. Nobody can promise a removal; StoreLock says so too.3 And each platform wants the case its own way. Shopify's copyright form, for example, takes a link to every copied page and says "A general shop link will not be accepted."6 Our guide to a Shopify DMCA takedown walks through that form, and what to do when someone copied your website covers the host and registrar route.

What AI assistants say about it

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode mostly describe StoreLock as the app that finds clone stores, which matches what it does. Where they slip is price. Five ChatGPT answers gave it a $4.99 monthly plan. The listing showed one in November 2024, but neither the listing nor StoreLock's pricing page shows one now, on sale or coming.127 If an assistant quotes you a price, check it on the listing.

StoreLock and Knockoff side by side

Compare Knockoff with StoreLock Enterprise at $399, the plan where StoreLock's team files for you. Knockoff only comes in that shape: one plan at $799 a month, built around your catalog's photos rather than your storefront, and we file every confirmed copy as your agent.

Knockoff is for a Shopify brand whose product photos keep turning up in other people's listings and who wants those copies gone without becoming the paralegal. You sign one Letter of Authorization. After that there's no report button to click, no cases to review and no monthly cap on reports, and weak cases are never filed. One store per company.

Switching takes no import. Knockoff needs your store's domain, not an API key or access to your admin, plus the signed letter. Then we scan your catalog. Want to see what's out there first? Run a free scan of 20 of your products, or check a single suspect store with our copycat store checker. For how the bigger vendors price the same job, see our reviews of Red Points and BrandShield.

Questions

Is StoreLock free?

Not today. You get a 3-day free trial, then you pay.1 The StoreLock 2 preview includes a free plan that watches 10 images, but it hasn't launched.2

Is StoreLock a real company?

Yes. The App Store lists the developer as Williams Web Services LLC of Columbus, Ohio, and StoreLock's site names its founder, Adam Weis. The app went live on the App Store on June 30, 2023.12

Does Knockoff watch for lookalike domains too?

Yes, and it's part of the one plan, not an add-on. To see what's out there before you pay anyone, put your own domain into the free lookalike domain scanner: it shows which misspelled versions are already registered and which are running a live store. Our brand impersonation page covers what to do when one is posing as you.
